My Truth in Taxation Pledge

Discuss this in our discussion forums

Should I become Governor, I hereby pledge that the taxes that are collected under my administration will be put in the budgets they are collected for.

I personally define taxation as any money taken in through traditional taxation methods or fees charged for services that the community benefits from as a whole. In this definition a fee is a tax and a tax is a fee.

I further do not agree to never raise taxes. I will do my best to shrink the size and scope of government but only in areas that will not bring harm to the citizens at large. I agree to be committed to studying the way in which we carry out our business and see that government is streamlined to work efficiently and safely for the benefit of the citizens.

There is always a way to invest the things that are paramount to our status as a state and the services we provide to our citizens.

I will not agree to build stadiums on the backs of the taxpayer but will work hard to assist with ideas that would allow private citizens to donate money freely to assist in this venture. Owners of Professional teams need to get labor issues in order and need to INVEST and have their players INVEST in the vitality of their own organizations. This holds true for all private corporations in the state both large and small. The taxpayer is not a factor in the FREE MARKET equation, other than holding consumer status.

I am committed to tying all the revenue arrives in the State coffers to the line item budget items they were collected for.

I will further charge the legislature with making certain that funds that come in for one purpose are not used for another, and that the budget is transparent and understandable to all of the citizens of Minnesota.

I believe, as with all sound budget plans, we need to set a certain percentage aside in an account that is to be used for emergent purposes only. Emergent does entitle the legislature to use money from this account, because they did not spend or plan wisely. The money can never be used to extend a legislative session.

I will, to the best of my ability seek out additional sources in the form of Federal Grants and low interest loans to augment the state funding for statewide interests.

I pledge that I will uphold the tenets of this pledge and fulfill the obligations listed forthwith.
