Why the Independence Party?

I represent the majority of Minnesotans who do not identify with any of the mainstream political parties. I personally believe that the political parties have become another barrier between a responsive government as it was created to be and the citizen.

Prior to 1998, I had always voted, been involved in my community and kept up to date with the issues that were at the forefront in our state. I had never felt the need to be a part of the political party machine, but decided to join a party and try to be a part in a more in depth way.

A New Beginning – A New Approach

As I was approached to run for office again, I had spent five years of careful consideration of how this campaign would be different. I decided to run in an effort to devote my time to the citizen. After all, elected officials are elected by the people to serve the people. I believe that there are so many competing allegiances when listening to what the party wants, and what special interest groups want, the citizen’s voice is just a distant whisper.

The Problem of Partisanship

The current way in which our government is operating restrains the BEST idea to rule the day. Our legislature would rather focus on the “argument” rather than the SOLUTION. This is the second legislative session in a row where little was accomplished until the eleventh hour, and for the first time in the state’s history, government was shut down, while the Governor endeavored to handle a two party system that is out of control. Unfortunately, the Governor is also part of the two party system.

IT IS TIME FOR CHANGE

I know that when we talk about change it is a little unsettling to wonder where we might end up if we try new ideas and new processes. I ask you, “Can it be any worse than it is right now”? I believe I can keep the Citizen in focus and create an atmosphere of collaboration at the State Capitol.

A MESSAGE OF HOPE AND UNITY

If you have become discouraged over the course of the last few years at the Capitol, you are not alone. I have spoken with people from all over the state that are completely discouraged about the state of affairs in our state. I believe that together we can get back on track by remembering that although we have a diverse population in every way, we need to remember we are all in this together and we need to find a way to come to the table in the spirit of collaboration and participation, so that all good ideas are considered, regardless of the source. I believe I am the candidate who can clearly keep my eyes focused on the needs of the citizen, keeping the best for all in focus.

I ASK FOR YOUR HELP

I am looking for good people to support my campaign and to agree to partner with me to see that the best we can do is done for ALL of the people of Minnesota. A many-corded rope cannot easily be broken. I believe I am the candidate to REMIND the legislature who they serve. I am the candidate who will never refuse to meet with the leadership of either house when asked. I will not rest, and will continue to come to the bargaining table until the work is done and consensus is reached. WHY INDEPENDENT?

I am Independent because I represent the majority of my constituency that believes the best idea can come from anywhere!
